Born and raised in California, I am a social and cultural historian whose work is inspired by the lives of ordinary people who did extraordinary things.
When I am not working on my historical novel, I teach courses in U.S. history and historical research methodology & writing at the University of California, Berkeley. I am also the president of the Western Association of Women Historians (WAWH) and volunteer with my local historical society.
I love to travel and am a heritage tourism enthusiast. Heritage tourism is a fabulous way to gain appreciation for -- and get a sense of -- what life was like in the past. Click on the Heritage Tourism link at the top of the page to check out my HT blog posts.

Well-behaved women seldom write history.
